Overview
Elevating Brisbane's premier retail precinct while preserving its historical charm.
The Queens Plaza Stage 1B project enticed a new wave of luxury brands and patrons to the heart of Queen Street mall. Within the busy retail precinct, we reconfigured four tenancies to accommodate two new-to-market fashion houses, Salvatore Ferragamo and Balenciaga.
Our program comprised de-fitting the existing tenancies, as well as demolition of intertenancy walls and the existing shopfronts to open up the clerestory, admitting extra light in the interior spaces. We also relocated and reinstated services.
Externally, we carefully removed the 1909 Finney Isles Ltd heritage awning along the Queen Street Mall frontage. We replaced it with a sophisticated, fritted glazed awning, set at a 2.5-degree fall and illuminated with LED strip lighting. This elegant new feature not only aligns with the mall's upscale image but also enhances the vertical dimension of the external shopfront.
To ensure we preserved the refined architectural details of Finney Isle, we undertook a comprehensive 3D laser scanning of the building’s shopfront prior to demolition. This process was crucial to accurately capture the precise contours of the original awning's outline, allowing us to replicate these exact specifications on the new facade, preserving a vital link to the site's historical essence.

The reconfigured tenancies welcomed luxury fashion houses, Salvatore Ferragamo and Balenciaga to the shopping hub. Through diligent construction management, we kept existing tenants trading while adhering to Brisbane City Council's stringent regulations.
