Overview

Modern sporting facilities for a growing football club, equipped with inclusive amenities to boost female participation.

Higgins joined Frankston City Council in redeveloping the South Pavilion at Ballam Park, replacing an aging building that no longer met modern requirements.

Home to Peninsula Strikers Junior Football Club, the existing structure catered to one of Frankston’s largest soccer organisations with over 400 registered players. With no dedicated change rooms, female players used to crowd into the public toilet block with many opting to arrive dressed because of the lack of facilities.

To support continual growth in junior soccer for all genders, Council funded the construction of a modernised pavilion to meet both current building and accessibility standards while offering inclusive spaces.

We built the new pavilion which provides eight female friendly change rooms, referee change rooms and an expansive multipurpose social space. It also includes a kitchen/kiosk, enhanced storage, dedicated first aid facilities, and additional public toilets for all park users.

The design incorporated unique brickwork to create a distinct identity for the sporting precinct. From the sky, the building mimics the shape of an ice cream cone, featuring ‘waffle cone’ brickwork patterns that nod to the nearby playground.
