Overview
Enhanced library resources and a new administrative hub for the College's Primary precinct.
After successfully completing the Enterprise Centre, Higgins delivered Cannon Hill Anglican College's (CHAC) new Primary Administration and Library Conversion project. This stage of the College master plan blends with neighbouring buildings whilst establishing an entry statement for the far end of the P-12 campus.
Our scope involved the construction of a new administration building and repurposing the existing administration building into a library space. We also undertook an extension and modification to improve the car park and school drop-off zones.
The administration building responds to a domestic-scale street edge, spanning two levels. It boasts a reception area and well-appointed staff amenities, including a kitchen, offices, meeting rooms and collaboration spaces. Additionally, it houses a health hub, and a balcony overlooking a courtyard and undercroft outdoor learning area.
Referencing previous construction stages, the addition features tones and materials complementary to the surrounding bushland, such as the combination of white and tan brick. Sinuous forms, including bullnose edges, arched contours, and circular voids, draw on a common motif across the master-planned site.
A hit-and-miss pattern on the face brickwork elevates the façade, allowing the passage of light from one area to the next.
Our program prioritised the new construction, allowing staff to move into the new home before we began converting the existing administration facilities.
We formed the new library space within the original building footprint. The repurposed space includes staff offices and library, featuring a bespoke curved tiered seat, acoustic walls and ceiling panels, new joinery and lighting fixtures.
Externally, we refreshed the green space with new turf, plants and trees. Landscaping is integrated into the structure, providing a green feature through roof gardens at the podium level. We also installed play sculptures and freestanding precast concrete twigs that guide pedestrian circulation and create seating.
