Construction of a new primary school for
530 students on a ‘green field’ site to replace
and relocate an existing school within the
municipality.
The new St Macartan’s is based on passive design principles, using lowembodied energy materials.
The new school is comprised of five buildings which include administration & staff centre, junior school, middle school, senior school, multipurpose hall, chapel, library and art room. The school’s classrooms are grouped in a number of small neighbourhoods containing pods of junior, middle and senior grades.
The pods surround a large central piazza. A large multipurpose area connects to a music room, art studio, library and language centre. Each pod is autonomous, with harvested rainwater used to flush the toilets and a building management system controlling the temperature and lighting.
