Carl Scavo
Estimating & Business Development


Carl joined SJ Higgins Group in 1995, having graduated from The University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Planning and Design (Honours) and a Master of Building. Carl has gained extensive experience in all facets of construction including project and cost management, design development, cost planning and contract negotiation.

On a day to day basis, Carl provides leadership and direction to the national estimating team and liaises closely with the business development and construction teams in ultimately securing new business for the company.

Peter joined SJ Higgins Group in 2004 after a lengthy career as a finance professional in the construction and property development industries. He has played a major role in defining the group’s direction, by introducing strategic planning concepts to shape the company’s future, and implementing management information systems that will underpin the company’s long-term plan.


As Finance Director Peter’s key responsibilities include financial control of group businesses, evaluation of financial performance, and strategic planning. He is a CPA with an MBA from Monash University.

Nick joined SJ Higgins Group in 2000 as Building Cadet whilst completing a Bachelor of Applied Science in Construction Management at RMIT. After on-site experience as a Leading Hand he progressed into a Project Management role.

In 2009 Nick was appointed as Queensland State Manager of the SJ Higgins Group providing strategic vision to the Queensland Branch and was instrumental in managing the Group’s growth, particularly the development of mining Infrastructure projects.


Nick was appointed a Director of the company in 2013 and continues to oversee SJ Higgins Group’s operations in Queensland.

Ken joined SJ Higgins Group in 2008 as a Senior Project Manager and has been integral in the company’s successful track record and growth in the health sector. As Construction Manager, Ken holds overall responsibility for the successful delivery of all building construction projects including quality, contract budget, program, OH&S and industrial relations. His qualifications include Bachelor of Building (Construction)and a Bachelor of Planning and Design.


With strong technical capabilities and a portfolio of projects across various sectors, Ken is highly regarded by clients for his consistent commitment to quality.

Mario joins SJ Higgins with 30 years experience in the Construction Industry. Fulfilling roles including Building Cadet, Contract Administrator, Project Manager, Construction Manager and Operation Manager, Mario brings an extensive understanding of not just the industry itself, but the management of projects, staff and stakeholders alike. Mario has an impressive portfolio of construction experience that covers various roles, build types and market sectors including retail, industrial, commercial, aged care and community.


With exceptional management and problem-solving skills, Mario is an integral part of our SJ Higgins team.

Tony Jenkins

Tony presents 39 years experience in the construction industry with over 29 years in a range of senior HSEQ management roles across a diverse range of industry sectors and projects up to $350 Million in Value. As a former Principal Field Officer for WorkSafe, Tony brings a unique and holistic approach to managing health, safety, environment and quality.


His expertise in training, leading and managing health and safety providing a strategic direction and leadership to all staff, is a key factor in maintaining SJ Higgins Group’s safety and quality record. As an accomplished and qualified mentor and trainer, Tony is passionate about changing attitudes towards health and safety and attaining best practice project outcomes.

Naude Botha

Naude is a results-oriented Health, Safety and Quality Advisor with valuable hands on knowledge gained over 10 years managing and working on varied projects throughout the UK and Australia in WHSO Commercial Positions and Project Management.


As the HSEQ Manager for Queensland, Naude focuses on continuously developing and implementing strategies to ensure best practice in health and safety including overseeing day to day operations, completing HSEQ audits, assessments and reports, inspecting job sites to ensure all safety requirements are met and preparing and reviewing risk assessment reports.
